Among these, the 146, now called the Le Grand, features a built-in piston mechanism and is popular for its manageable size and dependability. The pen’s elliptical shape, gently narrowing from the centre to both ends, combined with its jet-black finish, has a captivating charm that makes it hard to put down. The black body and the long, oval form- narrowing at the centre and at each end offer an appeal that remains fresh with continued use, and you’ll find it difficult to part with. The component that attaches to the butt shaft and supports the piston is made from resin rather than metal, making the butt section a few grams lighter and less rear-heavy, improving its balance.
