Description
Star Wars #99 features the storyline Touch of the Goddess, centred on a race against time to save a dying planet and a critically ill Lando Calrissian. The planet Godo is suffering from a mysterious, deadly virus that is decimating its population. The only known cure lies in restoring a sacred religious artefact: the Dancing Goddess statue. Lando Calrissian had previously given this statue to a character named Captain Drebble. Han Solo and Luke Skywalker track down Lemo and Sanda in prison, striking a deal for their release and rare flame gems in exchange for information on the statue’s whereabouts. While Han and Luke handle the negotiations, Lando travels to the world of Stenax to retrieve the statue from Drebble, who has reformed and willingly hands it over. The heroes return the statue to its rightful place in the temple on Godo. Almost immediately, the virus begins to recede, and the population starts to recover. To prevent future theft, the Godoan government permanently seals the temple to all outsiders. However, the victory is bittersweet—Lando, having forgotten to take a vital radiation treatment before entering the temple, collapses from the virus himself as the Alliance fleet prepares to depart.
