The Matchbox Top Gun: Maverick was originally scheduled for release in June 2020 across all retailers. However, the COVID-19 outbreak delayed those plans, making it uncertain whether the line itself would launch to coincide with the movie of the same name, which was postponed and eventually released in May 2022. The line was released before that, consisting of 5 packs, the new Sky Slammers line of stomp rockets, 13 new Sky Busters vehicles with both new and old castings, 4 packs, and the Aircraft Carrier play-set. The 5-packs and some Sky Busters vehicles eventually hit shelves around late May to early June 2020, with the remaining items releasing in 2021.
