In Ka-Zar #1, the story Return to the Savage Land! features the origins of Ka-Zar, his sabre-toothed tiger companion Zabu, and a cameo by Shanna the She-Devil. Ka-Zar returns to the Savage Land by means of a SHIELD plane and a courageous jump with his friend and pet, Zabu. Upon reaching the beaches of the isle, Ka-Zar decides to take a swim in its waters. His relaxing swim is soon interrupted by a giant snake, which he quickly slays, and then, shortly after, a shark that attacks him after smelling blood in the water. Following the battle, Ka-Zar returns to the beach and expresses his happiness at returning to the dangerous land he feels he belongs in, even if it means parting with Agent Bobbi Morse, with whom he has become close during his travels away from his bestial lands…
