The Omega Men #1 (CGC Graded 9.4) DC Comics April 1983 (First Star-Spanning Issue)
$149.95
The Omega Men #1 is the premier issue of the first ongoing monthly series dedicated to DC Comics’ extraterrestrial freedom fighters. Published with a cover date of April 1983, the issue launched a 38-issue run that deeply explored the cosmic, war-torn politics of the Vega star system.
In The Omega Men #1, the team approach a citadel outpost on Slagg, with Tigorr and Nimbus neutralising the sentries, allowing the team to enter unimpeded. They disrupt a Citadel feast, leaving one alien for questioning. Primus asks about other outposts, and the alien claims the Citadel will soon control the Vega system, including Euphorix. Kalista, a former queen of Euphorix, insists her planet’s shield is impenetrable, but the Citadelian disagrees. The Omega Men take control, placing Citadelians in stasis. Tigorr and Primus argue over leadership, but Primus remains in charge. Primus informs refugees their next stop is Changralyn, Broot’s home world. Despite Broot’s warnings of his people’s pacifism, they proceed. On Changralyn, they find the natives have a pact with the Citadel, trading infants for protection. The Omega Men rescue twelve infants, but Broot kills the Gordanian slavers, prompting a Citadel Nuke-Bomb attack on Changralyn, killing many innocents.
Features
The issue features the core lineup of the morally grey, rag-tag cosmic team:
Primus: The strategic leader of the rebellion
Kalista: A sorceress and former queen of the planet Euphorix
Tigorr: The ferocious, tiger-like warrior
Broot: The super-strong pacifist forced into violence
Nimbus: A gaseous, incorporeal entity
Demonia & Harpis: Additional complex members of the resistance faction
