$129.95
Marvel Premiere #55, published by Marvel Comics in August 1980, is a highly collectible Bronze Age key issue featuring the first-ever solo story of Simon Williams, aka Wonder Man.
From what you tell me, the new owners have to be the Maggia. — Wonder Man
In Marvel Premiere #55, Simon Williams tries to reclaim his corporate past through Williams Innovations (which makes its 1st appearance here). However, he discovers his company has been infiltrated by the Maggia crime syndicate and must battle a Hydra-created Dreadnought robot. Features appearances by Madame Masque (Giuletta Nefaria) acting as the Maggia director, alongside the first appearance and death of Madison Dash. In Wondy’s first solo saga, this issue moved Wonder Man out of the Avengers’ shadow and into the spotlight, exploring his civilian efforts to rebuild his business life. The issue features a script by legendary writer David Michelinie, a plot co-written by Bob Layton, and classic art by Ron Wilson and Joe Sinnott.
Marvel Premiere featuring Wonder Man #55
Plot by Michelinie and Layton, script by Michelinie. According to Michelinie’s introduction to Marvel Masterworks: The Avengers #19, in which this issue was reprinted, the script was intended for an aborted Wonder Man miniseries
In 1980, Marvel was shifting heavily toward comic book specialty shops (Direct Edition). Surviving newsstand copies—which were sold on spin racks at grocery stores and gas stations—are significantly scarcer in high grades due to rough handling and higher rates of return and destruction
